The Port Ellen Playing Fields development provided a range of new and improved community facilities for South Islay Development, including a new community pavilion, upgrades to the existing play area, and a new toilet block and motorhome park. M&C were appointed to provide Clerk of Works services, supporting the project from the pre-start stage through to completion. Our role was to provide an independent, high-quality inspection service throughout construction, helping to ensure the works met the client’s requirements and the required standards. Completed in December 2025, M&C remained involved through the end-of-defects period, carrying out an end-of-defects inspection in September 2026. While affordable housing forms a significant part of M&C’s work, the Port Ellen Playing Fields project provided an opportunity to apply our technical and project experience to a different type of community-led development. The project demonstrates how our Clerk of Works service can support a wide range of developments, helping clients achieve quality outcomes and deliver facilities that provide long-term value to their communities.
