Port Charlotte

Robin Currie Way

Named in memory of former Councillor Robin Currie, this development at Port Charlotte is a lasting tribute to a man who was a passionate advocate for affordable housing and a committed representative for the people of Islay and Argyll and Bute. Robin, who sadly passed away in 2024, was a progressive and dedicated councillor who worked tirelessly to support the delivery of affordable housing across the region. His commitment to creating opportunities for people to live, work and remain within their local communities made affordable housing a key part of his legacy. Naming the development in his honour recognises both his contribution to the local area and his longstanding support for housing that meets the needs of local people.

The development delivers 16 new affordable homes for West Highland Housing Association (WHHA), providing a diverse range of housing options within the Port Charlotte development. The homes comprise 12 properties for social rent and 4 New Supply Shared Equity homes, including:

- 4 × 1B2P cottage flats for social rent

- 4 × 2B4P cottage flats for social rent

- 2 × 2B4P semi-detached homes for social rent

- 2 × 3B6P semi-detached homes for social rent

- 2 × 2B4P semi-detached homes for New Supply Shared Equity

- 2 × 3B6P semi-detached homes for New Supply Shared Equity

The mix of property types and tenures was designed to provide diverse and accessible housing options for the Port Charlotte community, reflecting the importance Robin placed on affordable housing provision across Argyll and Bute. M&C were appointed as WHHA's Development Agents from the outset and provided both Development Agent and Clerk of Works services throughout the project. The role included overseeing the development and providing on-site technical and quality assurance, supporting the successful delivery of high-quality new homes. The Robin Currie Development represents more than the delivery of new homes; it provides a fitting and enduring recognition of Robin's contribution to Islay and his commitment to affordable housing. The development ensures that his name and the values he championed remain connected to the creation of new homes and opportunities for the local community.
